McAfee Security complaint

I have a wasted McAfee installation seat assigned to "PC". My system disk crashed and I had to reload a new one. There was no chance to remove the installed McAfee subscription prior to the crash. The Support person told me I could not recover the seat. Is that true? If so, there should be a way to do that.
