RE: Email outage?

This is the third day, I too have had this problem. The "invalid password" error is misleading. It doesn't necessesarily mean that its password related. You also get the same message if it is a server problem. When you try to connect to your mail, it sends your info to the server. If the server is "messed up" it may not find the account name, or perhaps the password isn't sent. When your client compares this with its info, all it knows is the two are different and gives the "invalid password" response. In this case, its easy to prove that its on the server side, and not the email program. First, since the password is valid when you log into webmail, and it works, but the email program doesn't shows its not a password issue. It could be the program is corrupted, but it isn't, (at least in my case) as I get the same issue if I try to connect using TELNET. (The old way of connecting to servers). What is really strange is you can go online, change your email password from what it is now to a new one. Then immediately change it back to the original. Go back to your email program and POOF, it works! But only for a few hours, then the problem is back. Every time you do this, your program will work for a while, then stops. So, in light of all these things, its a problem at Cox, and until they resolve it, this will continue to happen. Sorry for being so long winded, I get carried away sometimes. :-)
