Internet pricing

$

I am a internet starter customer.  Earlier this year you raised the price $2.00 a month and then a couple of months later an additional $3.00 and claimed the second increase was because I was not bundling.  So if I read that communication correctly, not only would I get a price discount if I bundled, I would also not be subject to this surcharge if I bundled.  That's a classic coming and going pricing strategy.   I understand that Cox is losing cable TV customers at a disconcerting  rate but that is, as Cox knows, is a function of the Cox cable TV pricing model, which is not geared to modern customers. Rather, your current pricing model appears to be strictly profit driven (which obviously is not working) and foists on your customers TV cable channels that could not survive in market (supply and demand) driven environment or any incentives each such cable channel may be providing Cox to include those channels in your Cox cable TV bundles..  Cox, as with most cable, pricing model also discriminates against females, many of who have little or no interest in sports channels (which are a large price driver for cable pricing) and statistically significant less  interest in cable news channels.  I am an older customer and so remember the day that, in addition to your bundled prices, you permitted ala carte pricing customers.  I don't know if return to alternate  ala carte pricing  is the answer but the answer is certainly not using your captive internet customers to offset profit reductions on your TV cable because (1) we internet customers have no interest in your cable TV offerings and (2) we are not captive once your internet pricing overcomes our inconvenience of changing internet providers  threshold.

Extremely high ping when connecting to any website

I have been experiencing extremely high ping for all websites for at least a week now. Even when running a ping on a website such as google, the ping will suddenly spike to extremely high numbers such as 300 or 400ms, sometimes even timing out for 1 or 2 seconds. 2 Technicians have been out to attempt to solve the issue, but neither have been able to pinpoint what is happening, so any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello,

Are you currently using a wireless router? If so, is this issue happening with other devices in the home?

Thanks,

I can access all of those sites, yes.  I just can't send email via SMTP.

Also, I never got any notifications that this was replied to.

SMTP not passing through from off network

I have 3 Cox email addresses via a virtual account, and use them worldwide.  While in the EU or middle east any email I send will look as though it has sent, but never reaches its destination.  I receive no returned mail errors and no SMTP errors.

I would like to keep these addresses, as a significant amount of business traffic flows through them, but if I can't use them outside the Cox network as they were advertised, there is no point.

Is it possible to change this somehow on the server side?  Maybe enforce secure password authentication (SPA) and allow connections from any IP address?

If the technician was able to get good results it sounds like the connection is not the problem. Do you have a device with gigabit that does not use a Killer NIC you can try connecting directly to the modem and testing with?

Not receiving near Gigablast Speeds

Hi,

So this may have been posted elsewhere, but I'm definitely having speed issues with Cox Gigablast in my area. I am using DOCSIS 3.1, not Fiber.

I am currently using the Motorola MB8600 DOCSIS 3.1 and the Motorola MR1900 AC Router setup.

I have had two techs come out. The first was unhelpful, and just said there were disruptions in the lines, and he would create a ticket for it. I then called again a few weeks later to have a lead technician come out and check things out.

When he hooked up the test machine direct to my router, he was able to achieve 1.1gbps download and 38mbps upload, which is what I would expect.

But when I hookup up my laptop in the same scenario, which has a Killer wireless Gigabit Port capable of 940mbps, I max out at 477mbps download, and 32mbps upload.

And those results were intermittent. Sometimes it would be 84mbps, other times it would be 300mbps. But I am never able to achieve speeds even close to 1gbps. His results were all consistent, except one time when it came back with roughly 200mps. And this has all been direct wired.

I have been testing all of this on the 5ghz network as well.

Mentioning wireless, the fastest I ever achieved is 360mbps download and 32mbps upload. Then it would drop all the way down to 17mbps download sometimes. But uploads are always consistent. Consistently at this point I haven't seen about 200mbps download from any device over WiFi

I'm extremely frustrated at this point, as it seems when the technician was able to connect his device, he could receive the speeds I am expecting, yet when I hooked up my brand new laptop, I don't even receive half of that.

I am currently working with Motorola to see if there is a problem with the router and/or modem, but everything seems to be in order (Channels etc).

Its just odd that the tech could receive the gigabit speeds when direct wiring his machine, and I can't with mine.

I can provides captures of speed tests run and channel settings. I'm just extremely frustrated. Does anyone have any recommendations for the router and/or modem setup? Am I missing something?

Oh, and ever since I changed to Gigablast, it constantly says on my account "Service Interrupted"  by my Internet package settings on Cox.com. When I asked Cox about this a week ago, the mentioned its because site maintenance was being done, but its still there.

I couldn't see it being my personal equipment:

2017 Razer Blade Pro and 2017 Macbook Pro, both of which are 802.11AC

iPhone X

Game Consoles

Hello Allan,

Thank you for your reply.

When I first noticed the problem, I went to webmail to verify that I was actually receiving mail (I rely on this address for many bill pay notifications).  On the log in screen was this hopeful notice:

Alert

If you are unable to sign into Cox WebMail, you will need to change your password. On this page, please click 'Forgot User ID / Password?' or click 'Chat with Us' for assistance. You cannot reset it to a previous password, and you will also need to update devices with your new password once you have changed it. Please Note: It may take up to two minutes for your password changes to take effect.

I changed my password then went through my phone, my laptop and my desktop to ensure that my passwords were updated.  Note that this problem occurs on any device that that I use Outlook or Cox's myemail.

Regarding webmail, yes, I can send and receive email unless it's through Cox's new myemail app.  I'm redirected to the myemail app on occasion and I'm concerned that the older webmail may go away.  In that case, I'll be unable to receive emails on that account.

I would prefer not to rely on webmail as I use Outlook at work and in other endeavors.  Between my different accounts, I link calendars, contacts and tasks.  My workplace will likely not support any switch that I might consider to myemail.

The bottom line is that my current id and password works fine on the SMTP server and the IMAP server fails to allow me to log in.  Even with myemail, I get turned away from the IMAP server.  I believe that this issue is more technical in programming than a mere set up or password issue.

Thank you,

Rick

It even happens on some *.gov sites.  It didn't start that way, but now the list seems to be growing.

I have had Gigablast for at least a year now.  At first I was getting speeds of 900+Mbps, but about every couple weeks it would drop into the 200's so I would have to reboot my fiber modem. Once rebooted it was back up into the 900's.  However the past couple months the reboot has not worked and I am getting mid 200's max.  Did something happen to your network or is my modem going bad?  My coax modem was faster than this, I am thinking of going back if this cannot be fixed.

Hello VaultDweller, This sounds like a setting has defaulted on or was turned on in error. Are you able to take a laptop and direct connect it to the modem to perform a test to rule out any potential router settings? If not able to do so, you may need to default the router to see if this helps.

Intermittent Ping Spikes on the 2nd Hop

$

So recently I've been having issues with intermittent ping spikes on all devices connected to the internet in my house. I began to run traceroutes to try to identify the issue and have noticed that the 1st hop (connecting to the router) seems to have no issues as that time is always <1 ms, but then from the 2nd hop onwards there are occasional ping spikes from anywhere between 100ms all the way up to 500 or 600ms. The ip address on the 2nd hop is always the same, so I assume this is some sort of Cox device, but I have no idea which one it is in particular. Does anyone know which device this would be?
