RE: Cant setup Outlook 2010 for use with Cox Web Mail

Hi Kip,

KipK

Interestingly enough, Outlook 2010 worked using automatic configuration (meaning when you hit "add new account" you just enter "your name," "E-mail Address," and "Password" then click "Next") for me last time I tried it,

I tried the auto setup, and it tried both an encrypted and unencrypted connection, but failed to login with either.

" but here are the latest manual IMAP settings for on or off-network use:"

I tried all of these, including the different SSL & TSL encryption/port assignments. Nothing seems to work.

I am able to login to my web mail account, and in fact there is a test message to me (in my web mail inbox) from my Outlook. So something is working, or WAS working. I guess I will play some more and see what I can find out. I have 5 other email accounts and all (except the free yahoo account) work fine through Outlook 2010/Win7 Pro, including two gmail accounts, a Hotmail and a private ISP account.

"465/SSL will work here also (see our email server names article), but 587/TLS was defaulted by the autoconfig."

I tried both 465/SSL and 587/TSL for outbound and 110/SSL and 993/SSL for inbound. Thanx for the link, I will look at that closer.

"nd it works like this on our desktops, which are off the Cox residential network. When it's set up to work off-network, it automatically works on-network."

I had tried setting it up off network while I was still on DSL, and that failed. Now I am on network and still having troubles.

"f you're continuing to have problems, double check the username and password (case-sensitive password, no "@cox.net" on the username) and also make sure webmail is letting you log in."

Yeah, I've done all that many times, but thanx for re-affirming the user ID thing (no @cox.net). And, as I mentioned above, I can indeed access my Cox web mail. One thing I was curious about. My password contains a non-alpha-numeric character. I assume that is OK since I was able to setup the account at the website, but just checking - is that OK? Thanx again.
